I run in time
with the pulse of the beat;
not the beat in my head
but the beat of my feet.

The passing of time is
almost palpable.
She sits alone in her chair,
day in and day out,
her only place of refuge
from the pain of an aging body.
Somehow finding more to live for,
she continues to sit.
In her chair.
Alone.
Day in and day out.

Invented games to pass the time,
Described in semicircle rites,
Some tricky hooks stay lured for years,
The best hang on for centuries.
Described in semicircle rites,
The amphitheatric chanting dirge,
Conscripts the mind and feeds the urge.

Beyond the memory, back to what
The dead men heard in the hermit’s hut.
The best hang on for centuries
Enshrined in books and citadels,
Their fame proclaimed by steeple bells.

I heard today
that another way
the world could possibly end
was through the strand
of some new and deadly plague.
But lets stop thinking
of world ending
and try to stick
to doing something optimistic
in terms of life and love.
