  1. Sorgie says:

Two of them on the wire
    Making sharp, tick-tock movements
    like clocks

    They seem perpetually curious,
    ticking their heads and tails
    while their fellows
    many more than two
    congregate in a fir

    chattering with one another
    making plans or small talk

    when suddenly, without warning
they all lift off and go
    til spring

  2. Ashlee says:

Up and onward we climbed together,
    Never mindful of the weather.
Our path seemed to take us ever upward,
Which, at the time, seemed the same as forward.
Little did I think of gravity then
But climbing up higher, I fell farther my friend.
And have I gone backward now? to you I mouth,
Now that our adventure has gone a bit south?
I’m standing on solid, flat ground again
But I know that itch to climb will soon
    crawl back under my skin.

  3. Meryl says:

    If things go badly
    they have “gone south.”
    If things go rightly,
    have they gone north?

  4. Tristan says:

“Love and riches await you in the south.”
That’s the way I like my future told:
    specific, optimistic, and
swaddled in sugar and egg whites.

  5. lazerlipz says:

You can run south as far as you like
But no place is further than trouble
Later or sooner you’ll set on some cliff’s edge—
    Some barren border
And nothing behind but trees for miles
So play me some of that delta blues
Let my hands and I’ll clap
Let my voice and I’ll wail
    To it’s wrenching
    Pentatonic, pleasure-pain
    Play it Raw
    Rowdy
    Relentless
    As Rude as you like
    Until I’m battered and sore
And heart bleeds in exulted misery
Though a hellhound’s on my trail,
    I’ll sing laments like gospel
And the devil can’t stop me—

His achy heart knows it’s blues,
And the fool’s seen bad days too

  6. SBgiselle says:

    Dawn
    Rising in the east
    Sunset
    Brightening the west
    North
    There’s a star in it’s sky
    South
    ……………………………

  7. deepgreen says:

    All my life
    I have tried to master
    A southern accent
    To no avail
    I always fail
    What is my problem!?

  8. Volkam says:

    South the cry came
    so south I went
happiness filled the gap of pain
brightened the drab walls of this traveler’s tent

I am among much more cheery personality
with smiles and laughs under the sun
    people who believe in responsibility
yet still know how to have fun

we sing we dance we play
we laugh we joke we race
all of each and every day
I feel snug and in place
