I will press up to the light
Like a bean vine struggling for life.
And I will not give up
Even in hail
And gray days
When the sun fails
Because it is still there behind the clouds
And tomorrow is another day.
Don’t change you!
I love who you are!
Who cares what they think?
Don’t try so hard!
I’ll always love you,
And your quirky, cute ways!
You brighten my life,
Like sunshine’s bright rays!
Don’t change you!
You look one way,
Yet you act another.
You live one way,
Yet you love another.
You cannot always change,
You can try to hide your true colors.
You don’t have to change,
Although it may be for the best…

for just three minutes,
the duration of that song,
i felt fifteen-years-old
creeping up my throat.
but of course
i could never let you
know that. what little more
meaning i am urging behind this.
so i grow up.
i abandon impulses that lead
me to believe a 1 a.m. text
is a good idea.
so i grow up.
i wear other boy’s shirts
and erase your name.
always wishing for that
“eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.”
the largest changes
don’t come when i
realize what i want,
but what i don’t want.

wrestling
until you bleed
resigning
for the gods to lead

Since us I’ve changed.
Since us you’ve changed.
Maybe we’ve changed enough
to try being us again.

It seems to me, in this crazy world
That someone’s always looking for change.
“Can I borrow a quarter? I’m short some cents.”

Sometimes expected
Other times not
Frequently noticed
Often overlooked
Continually different
Distinctly perpetual
Happening now
Change

Still your emotions
connect with all
observe… All around, commotion
be still
quiet your thoughts
focus on the moment
intuit the battles, wars, strife fought
deep within
make true your spirit
release it like an arrow
all will hear it
soar as an eagle
be poised and ready
to loose more arrows
in kind words that steady
and heal shattered souls

into a little shiny bowl
I scoop what’s left of my dollar
nab my bags and leave
