I’ve gone on too many
road trips to nowhere
and now I’ve simply
run out of gas.

Rest your head on my shoulder
The night will grow older
Until the stars ascend
For the sun will set rightly
And the moon will rise nightly
But time will be our friend
And these things will wash away
Like waves upon the sand
And each heartbeat is a march that leads us
Into that quiet end
But surely, it will go slowly
And time will be our friend

it’s like scraping the straw
around the bottom of
a McDonald’s milkshake
looking for a pocket
of creamy thick sweetness.
