it’s funny
never would have guessed
always thought once found
it would remain eternal
now a little wiser
yet still, somehow, perplexed
that love can come and go
Somehow thinking that my shift
is only temporary
here and gone soon enough
makes entering data a race
and cleaning up documents
(with no deadlines attached)
a contest
so much more interesting
than it could be
By the time you have finished the words on this page
And have thoroughly finished them all, I mean,
Not just stared for a sec at the text on the screen
But truly digested them; loved them; arrested them;
Taken them into your heart and invested them;
Captured the message I want to convey -
You’ll have whittled a whole twenty seconds away
Of your life, and they ain’t comin’ back.
A friend for a moment
Just there for a time
Turning away with coldness
Before we’d finished our climb
I think it was a lie
But i’m deciding not to care
Because it’s his loss, not mine
There’re tons of friends out there.
I sit, hushed with awe at the beauty.
Tulle gently floating in the pool of vivid light
Her strongly delicate body suspended for an instant-
Magic weightlessness.
Human flight.
Ephemeral moment passed;
No picture left to see,
No document to replay.
But the beauty lives on,
If only in my faithful memory.
The aroma of pie infusing the air,
clean warm laundry and the soft light at the close of the day,
fresh peaches, the laughs of children in trees, or the smell after rain,
The fruit that change brings,
Is the product of a winter, that could not overshadow the spring.
I don’t expect everyone to stay.
For some, their efficacy is lasting
Yet I may never see them again.
Heartbreaking, yes.
But there are blessings
In temporaries, substitutes, and stand-ins.

Her words were icicles:
only temporary,
but very beautiful
while they lasted.

those weather men
might’ve been right
when they first
said it would snow
but their right-ness
didn’t last long
